The house has been roofed and sided with the windows and exterior doors installed (except for the garage door.) We'll finish the electrical, and the plumbing, and hire other guys for the insulation and drywall.
We'll be finishing the floors, cabinetry, interior painting, fixtures, carpeting, and moving day ourselves... oh my goodness. So the progress and changes now will be subtle.
Below: The crew's tools, ready to be taken away after their last day. I'll sure miss having all that action served up out here, fresh daily, to my doorstep. Unreal! That kind of buzz simply does not happen out on this quiet peninsula. I enjoyed it while it lasted and I learned a lot.
Below: Here is our abode now... we are still cozy in our tiny trailer, and will probably spend the winter in there again while we get the house finished and tricked out properly. I absolutely love this house...
These coils of nails are used with air-powered nail guns. I find them so beautiful.
I pulled out some of the surprising colors glittering in the coil.
I learned a lot about the guy's toolbelts too. Each man's belt is different and is totally customized to their style and specialty. An essence of the man lingers around that tool belt long after he's left for the day.Below: This belt shows the man's years of experience and is totally broken in like a baseball glove.
I could also tell something about the work plans from the tool belts. Sometimes the guys would just drop their belts right where they stood when they left off, next to a wall to be framed for example. I knew then that another long, full day was planned for the crew immediately.Other days, the toolbelts would be gone, and then I knew we would have a vacation from the construction for a bit. The guys were also excellent judges of the weather! On days when I saw the toolbelts carefully stashed under cover, I knew it would rain.
I'm organizing a "Home Construction Index" chronology page featuring my favorite photos from each phase of the construction. It's going to be pretty cool! So stay tuned for that. And thanks as always for reading my blog!

Wow, the house is really coming along! You talk about the toolbelts...my dad was a carpenter for 30+ years and when he would come home from a job he would walk in the door and a blend of aromas would come in with him: fresh cut lumber, sweat, cigarette smoke and sometimes, beer. :)
Wow, I've been away too long! A lot has happened! I bet you can't wait to move in. Interesting observations on the tool belt there. I love the nail picture. I saw a 3-D piece of art work this weekend made with nails just like that. Someone had drawn the silhouette of a horse on a board and pounded in the nails to fill in the shape. Some nails were pounded in farther than others and some had smaller heads but all were copper colored and the effect was stunning. The board was stained a rich warm brown which set off the nail heads nicely. I've seen other people try to do these nail reliefs but this was the first one I have ever seen that was done well. Maybe you should give it a try?
